Three Indian citizens may be sentenced to death on charges of drug trafficking in Indonesia. This information has been revealed by quoting a media report. The accused are accused of smuggling 106 kg ‘Crystal Meth’ from a Singapore flag ship.
Police said Raju Muthukumaran (38), Selvurai Dinakaran (34) and Govindasamy Vimalakandhan (45) were arrested in July 2024 from Pongkar water area in Karimun district of Indonesia. All three are residents of Tamil Nadu and were working in the ‘Shipping (Shipping)’ industry in Singapore.
According to officials, Indonesian authorities stopped the ‘Legend Aquarius Cargo’ ship on the basis of secret information. In the investigation, a large amount of drug was recovered from this ship. During the hearing in the court, the defense said that the testimony of the ship’s captain was necessary, but he only appeared virtually which could not examine.
The defense lawyer argued that it was not possible without the knowledge of the drug trafficking captain on such a large scale. The prosecution has demanded a ‘death sentence’ for the accused. The head of Indonesian National Narcotics Agency, Marthinus Hakom, said that the three Indian citizens are the owners of drugs. The decision in this matter is expected to come on April 15.
