
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said on Monday that the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is sensitive but stable. While addressing a press conference before the Army Day, General Dwivedi said that some deadlock still persists in the area and efforts need to be made to restore trust between the Indian and Chinese armies.
Army chief General Dwivedi said patrolling and animal grazing has begun in traditional areas in Depsang and Demchok, which were the two conflict zones from where both sides had retreated in October, adding that our deployment is balanced and solid. And we are capable of handling any situation.
On the overall situation of LAC, the Army Chief said, ‘We are focusing on promoting border infrastructure and capacity development.’ On the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, he said that overall the situation is under control and the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan on the Line of Control remains intact. The Army Chief also said that infiltration efforts are continuing and the terrorist infrastructure on the Pakistan side remains intact. He said that 60 percent of the terrorists killed last year were of Pakistani origin. Regarding Manipur, Army Chief General Dwivedi said that due to the coordinated efforts of the security forces and active initiatives of the government, the situation in the state has come under control. However, the Army Chief said that incidents of violence are continuing in Manipur and the armed forces are trying to bring peace in the region. He said that surveillance on the India-Myanmar border has been increased to deal with the possibility of any impact of the situation in Myanmar.
