Terrible earthquake in Tibet adjacent to Nepal

According to a report released by China Earthquake Network Center, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. Nepal is located in the area where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide, forming the Himalayas and frequent earthquakes. In the year 2015, there was an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude in Nepal, in which about 9,000 people were killed and more than 22,000 people were injured. More than five lakh houses were destroyed in this.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake was felt at 6:35 am. According to NCS data, two more earthquakes occurred in the region immediately after the earthquake.

The intensity of the second earthquake was 4.7, which occurred at 7.02 am, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The third earthquake was of 4.9 magnitude, which occurred at 7:07 in the morning, at a depth of 30 kilometers.

Reason for earthquake?

There are seven plates inside the Earth, which keep rotating continuously. The zone where these plates collide is called fault line. When these plates collide repeatedly, their corners bend. When there is too much pressure, these plates start breaking. The energy buried below finds a way to come out and after the disturbance an earthquake occurs.

What intensity of earthquake is dangerous?

  • Earthquakes on the 0 to 1.9 Richter scale are detected only by seismographs.
  • Light shaking occurs when an earthquake occurs on the Richter scale of 2 to 2.9.
  • When an earthquake on Richter scale 3 to 3.9 occurs, it seems as if a heavy vehicle passed nearby.
  • Glass windows on walls can break if an earthquake of 4 to 4.9 on the Richter scale occurs.
  • Furniture can move during an earthquake of 5 to 5.9 Richter scale.
  • An earthquake measuring 6 to 6.9 on the Richter scale can cause damage to the foundations and upper floors of buildings.
