In the 1930s, when India was surrounded by the flames of revolution and the struggle of British rule intensified. Then the film industry was also flourishing. During this period, a talented musician entered the world of cinema. Born in a brothel and grew up, the woman started studying music from a young age. His beauty was very compliment. He created a different creative artistic identity in cinema. This woman was none other than Jaddanbai. She was the mother of superstar Nargis and grandmother of Sanjay Dutt. She was born to Mia Jaan and Dalipabai’s house around 1892, a small place around Banaras, when she was five years old, her father died.
After this, Jaddanbai went to the city and became a singer under the guidance of Srimanta Ganpat Rao (Bhaiya Saheb Scindia) of Calcutta. After his death, he trained Ustad Moinuddin Khan and Ustad Lab Khan. Over time, she became a bigger singer and tawaif than her mother. Jaddanbai, who was already a famous singer, stepped into cinema when she was contacted by Lahore’s Play Art Photo Tone Company for a role. After acting in some films, he again stepped into production and started his own company called Sangeet Films. He financed the 1935 film Plake Haq and introduced his daughter Nargis as a child artist. According to a BBC report, journalist Yasar Usman called Jaddanbai ‘India’s first show Woman’, as she was an all -rounder, like Raj Kapoor, acting, directed and produced in her films.
Talking about personal life, Jaddanbai did three marriages. He fell in love with Narottamdas Khatri, a rich Gujarati Hindu businessman, who adopted the religion of Islam after marriage. But after a few years of marriage, both of them got divorced. He had a son from this marriage, named Akhtar Hussain. He then married Ustad Irshad Mir Khan from whom his second son Anwar Hussain became actor. He was married to Mohanchand Uttamchand Tyagi, who adopted the religion of Islam for marriage and he had a daughter named Nargis. Nargis later became the big superstar of cinema. Nargis was the wife of actor Sunil Dutt and she had three children Priya, Namrata and Sanjay Dutt.
