Ada will be the largest port in the country in the next decade: Vijhinjam port: Kerala government

Kerala Finance Minister KN Balgopal said on Tuesday that Vijhinjam International Port, run by Adani Ports, will become India’s largest port in the next decade.

Speaking at the Vizhinjam Conclave 2025 and global investment summit held in the state capital, he spoke about the importance of the port in increasing India’s stature in global shipping and logistics.

Major parties were brought on a platform to discuss Vizhinjam’s strategic importance and possibilities of development in a summit organized by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) in partnership with Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Balagopal said, “Vizhinjam will re -define India’s maritime area with its natural deep water capabilities. This port will have a depth of 18 to 25 meters and is close to international shipping lane, due to which it is the world’s largest ships Will be able to handle. ”

In Vizhinjam Conclave 2025, Pranab Chaudhary, CEO of Adani Ports SEZ, unveiled an ambitious vision to convert Vijhinjam International Port into a global maritime and logistics hub.

He spoke about the establishment of the port in 2015 and its operation started in 2024 and highlighted its growing role in India’s Maritime Logistics Landscape.

Chaudhary said that with his commercial launch, so far has handled the ships between Port 100. Now its 250 is expected to go soon. This will also increase connectivity with other ports of India like Kandla and Mundra.

According to the CEO of Adani Ports SEZ, connectivity and infrastructure development in Vizhinjam will also create many opportunities for the industries of Kerala.
