Adani Group will increase investment in data center by $ 10 billion: Bloomberg Report

According to the Bloomberg report, people familiar with the case said that Gautam Adani is planning to invest an additional $ 10 billion to set up a data center in India. Adani Group, which includes many businesses from Port to Power, has identified Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu as potential places, where two data centers of about 1 gigawatt capacity will be set up. On the request of not mentioning the name, people said that over time the goal is to increase the data center to 10 GW. Adani Group is eyeing business with foreign governments. His focus is on the Government-to-Government Contract. Also, land acquisition work is also going on.

This announcement was last year

According to the report, this step has been taken by Mukesh Ambani -led Reliance Industries Limited after the announcement of setting up a data center of 1 GW in Jamnagar city of Gujarat in February. Adaani Group’s plans show that he is investing double in this field. Last year, Adani Enterprises Limited announced a plan to invest Rs 500 billion ($ 5.9 billion) for the infrastructure of the data center in western state of Maharashtra. A representative of Adani Group refused to comment on data center investment schemes.

Alibaba’s founder warned

The aggressive schemes made by the two richest people in Asia in India are completely opposite to the global recession in the field, as legendary companies like Microsoft Corporation are keeping an eye on their plans to install server farms and clouds that strengthen AI. The founder of Alibaba Joe Tsai warned of a possible bubble in the data center construction in March.

Meanwhile, Indian billionaires moving forward are thinking that the demand for data centers in the world’s most populous country will overtake the supply. Last year, global capability centers – offshore units that handle the commercial processes of the original company – leased a record 77.2 million sq ft office space in major cities of India.

According to the capacity, such the biggest complexes are located in the US and they are owned by Tech veterans. Comparatively, according to Industry Research firm DC Bite, the largest data centers operating in India are currently lower than 1 gigawatt.

The report states that Adaani’s empire is returning to its aggressive development plans after a fake report by Short-Seler Hindonburg Research in early 2023 and investigation by the US Department of Justice in November. Adani Enterprises’s global data center is also a 50:50 joint venture with Edgeconnex Inc. (Edgeconnex Inc.), called Adaniconnex PVT. According to its website, its operation is in Chennai and Hyderabad and it is building facilities in Mumbai and Pune.
