This was held at a function held at MOU Thimpu in the presence of DGPC Managing Director Dasho Chhewang Rinzin and Adani Green Hydro Limited Chief Operations Officer Naresh Telugu. During this time, Bhutan’s Prime Minister was also attended by Prime Minister Sharing Tobge and Energy and Natural Resources Minister Lionpo Game Teshering. Earlier, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tobge himself informed about this agreement. He said on X, “I am happy that Druk Green Power Corporation and Adani Power have made significant progress on the Wangchu Hydroelectric Joint Enterprise Project, and they have signed a compromise memorandum to jointly develop 5,000 MW additional hydroelectrics in Bhutan. I am grateful to my friend Gautam Adani.”
DGPC Managing Director Dasho Chhewang Rinzin said, “The strategic partnership will further strengthen India and Bhutan’s friendly relations and will help in the maximum use of Bhutan’s renewable energy capacity.”
At the same time, COD Telugu of Adani Green Hydro Limited said that we are developing clean energy infrastructure with Bhutan which will strengthen the energy security security of India and the entire region.
It is worth noting that this agreement is based on the already ongoing 570/900 MW Wangchu Hydroelectric Project. In this, DGPC holds 51% and Adani Group holds 49%. This agreement will not only promote bilateral energy cooperation, but will also make Bhutan a strong partner in regional energy trade.
