New Delhi:
In Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are using songs to sharpen their respective campaigns for the assembly elections to be held on February 5. At the same time, Congress has not yet released its campaign song. However, it has released its campaign slogan.
On January 5, BJP had released a 2.26-minute campaign song, the lyrics of which are – ‘No excuses, change is needed’. At the same time, ‘AAP’ released the 3.29 minute song ‘Phir Laayenge Kejriwal’ on Tuesday.
Congress leaders said that the party will soon release its campaign song. At a press conference on Wednesday, Congress announced a health scheme under the banner of the party’s election slogan, which reads ‘Every need will be fulfilled, Congress is necessary’.
The party’s song, sung by BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, stresses the need for a “new identity” in its governance in Delhi. The song mentions the alleged failures of the AAP government and accuses it of making ‘false promises’ and indulging in corruption.
Its lyrics are- ‘False promises need a strong rebuke, not excuses, change is needed’. Its lines reflect the BJP’s emphasis on the fact that the AAP government has failed to work.
The song also mentions the 2020 Delhi riots and Yamuna river pollution. It says, ‘There is no more stain of riots, no more foam in Yamuna.’ In this, raising the issue of alleged wasteful expenditure in the renovation of the official residence of the then Chief Minister, it has been said that “Sheeshmahal was built by myself, with public money.”
On the other hand, AAP’s campaign song mentions some of its achievements during its tenure and aims to strike a chord with the voters. Praising Kejriwal’s leadership, the song calls him ‘Delhi ka Lal’.
It emphasizes the party’s achievements over the past decade, including free electricity and water, progress in education and affordable healthcare. This song contains lines like ‘Delhi me bijli mein bijli paani muft rakhta hai bus apna Kejriwal’.
The song also highlights the government’s emphasis on women’s safety and public infrastructure, and its lyrics praise Kejriwal for building flyovers and saving public money. Voting will be held on all 70 assembly seats of Delhi on February 5, while counting of votes will take place on February 8.
