Another U-turn of Trump! Gave ‘relief’ to European Union by postponing 50% tariffs, 8 days, understand why

US President Donald Trump withdrew his threat to impose 50 percent tariff on goods coming from the European Union on Sunday, 25 May. The reason for this was that Trump agreed to extend his time limit for business talks till 9 July after “very good call” with Ursula von Der Leyen, the head of the European Union. Earlier on Friday, Trump had threatened to speed up his tariff war and implement heavy tariffs on the European Union soon from June 1. He had said that the conversation with the European Union on his previous tariff is not moving forward. This announcement of Trump stirred up the global markets.

The US President became soft when the European Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen told him during a phone call that the European union needed more time to come on an agreement with the US. He asked Tariff to stay till July. Trump originally determined the time limit on July itself, when he announced a new tariff in April.

Trump wrote on his own social media platform Truth, “I received a call from Ursula von Der Leyen, president of the European Commission, in which he requested to extend the time limit of June 1 on a 50% tariff in relation to business and European Union. I agreed to expand – July 9, 2025 – It was my good luck to do so.

The European Union chief earlier said on X that he had “good conversation” with Trump, but “to reach a good agreement, we need time till July 9.”

The European Commission conducts a trade policy for a group of 27 countries and its own chairman Ursula von Der Leyen. He said, “Europe is ready to pursue the conversation rapidly and decisively.”

Trump threatened

In early April, Trump set a 90 -day time limit for trade talks between the European Union and the US, which was to end on 9 July. But on Friday, Trump’s threats dramatically extended the bet, when he said he was “not looking for a deal” with the European Union. He reiterated his frequent idea that the European Union was designed to “take advantage of” the United States.

Trump has attacked the European union with three sets of tariffs: 25 percent on steel and aluminum and automobiles, followed by 20 percent recipe on all imports – which has been suspended for pending talks, although baseline is 10 percent.
