New Delhi:
Anurag Kashyap has been a veteran Bollywood filmmaker and director. He has directed many great films. But now Anurag Kashyap has decided to leave Bollywood and stay out of Mumbai. Criticizing the Bollywood film industry, he has said that the fun of film making has ended in this industry. Anurag Kashyap has said this in his latest interview. Anurag Kashyap recently gave an interview to Hollywood Reporter India and announced to leave the Bollywood film industry.
The Gangs of Wasseypur director expressed his displeasure, saying that the joy of filmmaking “is gone.” He accused talent management agencies of pushing good artists to become stars instead of focusing on becoming better actors. Kashyap accused these agencies of exploiting young artistes for profit and abandoning them if they failed to perform.
Anurag Kashyap said, ‘Now it is difficult for me to go out and experiment because it costs money, which makes my producers think about profit and margin. It becomes about how to sell the film before it even starts. Therefore, the joy of film making goes away. That’s why I want to move out of Mumbai next year. I am going south. I want to go where there is excitement. Otherwise I will die as an old man.
Anurag Kashyap stressed that a film like Manjummel Boys will never be made in Hindi cinema, but if it is successful, it will be remade in Hindi. He said, ‘The mentality is to remake what is already successful. He will not try anything new. Anurag Kashyap specifically criticized agencies for promoting a harmful culture among budding actors.
Anurag Kashyap said, ‘It is very painful to work with first generation actors and really entitled people. Nobody wants to act. They all want to become stars. The agency will not make anyone a star, but as soon as someone becomes a star, the agency earns money from him. Anurag Kashyap also accused the agencies of creating barriers between actors and filmmakers. He shared an incident about an actor who went missing on the advice of an agency, but later came back to him after being released by the same agency. He said, ‘This is what the agency does. They just make money from you. He does not invest in building new careers. The filmmaker also expressed his disappointment towards the actors whom he previously considered friends. He said, ‘My actors, whom I considered friends, forget you because they want to be special. This happens mostly here; This does not happen in Malayalam cinema.
