Ryan rickelton on Ashwani Kumar: Mumbai Indians’ aggressive opener Ryan Ricelton praised Ashwani Kumar, the team’s partner Ashwani Kumar, who became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets in his debut match of the Indian Premier League, saying that his ball comes at a much faster pace than ‘people understand.’
Punjab’s left -handed fast bowler on Monday made a dream debut against Kolkata Knight Riders with four wickets for 24 runs in three overs. With his excellent bowling, Mumbai registered an easy win by eight wickets after KKR was dismissed for 116 runs in 16.2 overs. With the first win of the session, Mumbai’s team reached sixth in the table.
Ricelton told the media after the match at the Wankhede Stadium, “His bowling is much faster than what people understand. It is a big quality to him. He is capable of swinging the new ball.”
This wicketkeeper batsman from South Africa said, “The more you think, the more faster than as you think and his ball stays a little down. He is definitely the best player in this team and the pitch here is favorable to him.”
Ricelton said, “I want to see him bowling with a new ball so that he can show his other skills. He is a good discovery for Mumbai Indians and I really am eager to see how he performs.”
Ramandeep Singh of KKR also called Ashwani a ‘talented cricketer’. Ramandeep and Ashwini of Punjab take training in the same academy. He said, “Ashwani is a very talented cricketer, he is from Punjab. The IPL is identified to give new cricketers a chance to show talent and you can see their talent.”
Ricelton said that it was a great relief for him to make the first half -century for Mumbai Indians. This Khabbu wicketkeeper batsman scored an unbeaten 62 off 41 balls with the help of five sixes and four fours, so that Mumbai registered an easy win with 43 balls remaining.
He said, “To be honest, it was a great relief. The first two matches were on difficult pitches. In Mumbai, the Spencer (Johnson) here harassed me a little. It is really a matter of great pleasure to score with that challenge. The most joy is that the team got two points from this victory.”
Ricelton has previously represented the same franchise team MI Cape Town in the SA20 competition. He said that this gave him a good experience of understanding the franchise.
