Navjot Singh Sidhu on Rohit: Navjot Singh’s words will definitely reach BCCI also
New Delhi:
Former opener Navjot Sidhu is one of the few people who are very unhappy with Rohit Sharma’s decision to withdraw his name from the eleven for the fifth and final Test starting on Friday. Sidhu said that Rohit Sharma’s decision to opt out of the fifth Test is strange as it sends a wrong signal and the regular captain should get more respect from the team management. Rohit, who was struggling with poor form, chose to take ‘rest’ from the Sydney Test and handed over the responsibility of captaincy to Jasprit Bumrah. Since then, there has been an earthquake not only in India but also in the global world. And all the greats of the game are giving their opinion on this decision.
Sidhu wrote in a post on ‘X’, ‘The captain should never be removed in the middle of the series nor should he be given the option to opt out. This sends a wrong signal. Rohit missed the opening Test in Perth due to the birth of his second child and has scored only 31 runs in five innings of three Test matches.
Sidhu said, ‘Captains like Mark Taylor, Mohammad Azharuddin remained captain for a year despite poor form. Rohit deserved more respect and trust from the team management. This is strange because this has happened for the first time in Indian cricket history. It’s a big mistake’
