
Mahmudullah announced retirement: Bangladesh veteran batsman Mahmudullah announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday. 39 -year -old Mahmudullah, who announced his Test in 2021 and retired from T20 International in 2024, resorted to social media posts to say goodbye to international cricket.
Mahmudullah had earlier requested the board not to consider them for the central contract after February 2025. In the social media post, he wrote, “I have decided to retire from international cricket.” He further said, “I want to thank all my colleagues, coaches and my fans especially those who have always supported me. My parents, my in-laws, especially my father-in-law and most important thanks to my brother Imdad Ullah, who have been constantly with me since childhood.”
Mahmudullah is the fourth highest run -scorer in ODI international cricket for Bangladesh by scoring 5689 runs at an average of 36.46. He has also scored four centuries which are made in all ICC tournaments. He scored two consecutive centuries in the 2015 World Cup, a century against New Zealand in the 2017 Champions Trophy and his fourth century against South Africa in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Mahmudullah played 239 ODIs, 50 Tests and 141 T20 matches in his 17 -year career. Mahmudullah made his ODI debut in 2007 and initially played as a lower order all -rounder. The World Cup 2011 came to a significant turn when he gave Bangladesh a stunning victory over England.
He later became an important middle -order batsman and played several memorable innings including his historic 223 -run partnership with Shakib Al Hasan against New Zealand in the 2017 Champions Trophy.
The retirement of Mahmudullah has led to the end of the golden generation of Bangladesh which included Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mashref Murtaza. He is the only Bangladesh batsman to score three ODIs.
