Mumbai:
Former Assam cricketers Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia have been elected unopposed as the new secretary and treasurer of BCCI respectively at the special general meeting held here on Sunday. Saikia and Bhatia were the only names in the final list released by BCCI election officer Achal Kumar Jyoti, who previously served as the Chief Election Commissioner of India. Overall, the board has got its two big officers. Now let’s see how both of them work in the future. They are able to take big decisions for the betterment of Indian cricket just like Jay Shah took during his tenure.

Assam Cricket Association President Taranga Gogoi posted on Twitter, “Congratulations to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia and Prabhtejabi on being elected as Treasurers with Apex Council members of Assam Cricket Association at BCCI’s Mumbai office today. You Best wishes to both of them for tremendous success and fulfillment in their new endeavors. May your leadership and expertise take Indian cricket to new heights.”
Saikia, who played four first-class matches as a wicketkeeper-batsman for Assam, was the acting secretary of the BCCI after Jay Shah became the ICC chairman on December 1. He had previously served as the BCCI Joint Secretary, a post which is to be filled through another election process.
Bhatia, on the other hand, took over the role of treasurer after his predecessor Ashish Shelar stepped down after joining the Maharashtra state government as a cabinet minister. Bhatia is from Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association (CSCS) and has previously served in the apex council of BCCI.
