
Security forces have got great success in the operation conducted against Naxalites in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. There was an encounter between security forces and Naxalites on the border of Bijapur and Telangana, in which 17 Naxalites have been killed so far. Security forces have intensified the operation against Naxalites and the area has been completely surrounded.
Soldiers from three districts on the border of Bijapur and Telangana are carrying out a major operation against Naxalites. Encounter is going on between security forces and Naxalites since 09:00 am in Marudhbaka and Pujari Kanker area of Bijapur.
On information about the presence of large cadres of Maoists, a joint team of DRG Bijapur, DRG Sukma, DRG Dantewada, Cobra 204, 205, 206, 208, 210 and CARIPU 229 battalions is conducting the operation.
On Thursday itself, two commandos of CRPF’s Cobra unit were injured when a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites exploded in Bijapur district.
The police officer said that this incident took place in the early morning in Basaguda police station area when a joint team of security forces was out on a supremacy operation in the area. He said that in this operation, soldiers of 229th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 206th battalion of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), an elite jungle warfare unit of CRPF, were involved. The official said that according to preliminary information, the soldiers unknowingly came in contact with the pressure IED, which led to the explosion and two of them were injured.
Five Maoists, including two women, were killed in an encounter with security personnel on January 12 in Madded police station area of Bijapur district. Last year, security forces had killed 219 Naxalites in different encounters in the state.
