Bone-chilling cold will welcome the new year, read IMD’s alert regarding fog and cold wave.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cold wave in North India from Sunday. This means that the arrival of the new year is going to be accompanied by severe cold. It has been raining heavily in the national capital Delhi and NCR since last few days. Due to which a drop in temperature was recorded. Cold has increased in Gangotri and Yamunotri of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy snowfall and rain in Uttarkashi district. According to the department, there is a possibility of rapid change in weather in the areas at an altitude of 2,200 meters in the district. There may be heavy snowfall and rain in these areas, which may further increase the cold.

Temperature will drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius

There has been continuous snowfall in the mountains for the last two days, due to which the severity of cold has increased significantly in the plains. A significant drop in temperature has been recorded due to snowfall. According to IMD, the temperature may drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the coming days. It is going to be very cold from January 1st.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange’ alert for Delhi, which means that severe weather conditions may persist here.

Life halted due to snowfall

Due to bad weather and low visibility, many trains to and from Delhi are running late. While the timing of some has been changed. Prayagraj Express is running late by 22 minutes, while Delhi Banaras Vande Bharat train is running late by 15 minutes. Due to bad weather, many flights coming to/from Leh and Srinagar have also been affected.

  • 320 roads including 5 National Highways are closed due to heavy snowfall in Himachal.
  • In Himachal, around 340 electricity transformers are down and more than 150 bus routes have been closed.
  • Snowfall is also occurring in high altitude areas in Uttarakhand.

Hundreds of passengers are stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to heavy snowfall. Many people spent the night inside their vehicles in the bitter cold and demanded the main road to be opened as soon as possible.

How will the weather be in Delhi today?

The Meteorological Department has predicted dense fog in Delhi-NCR on Sunday and the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be 17 and 9 degrees Celsius respectively. Let us tell you that on Saturday the minimum temperature was recorded at 12.7 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees more than the average of the season.
