New Delhi:
The issue of H-1B is in the news in America. There has been a heated debate in America regarding this issue, now India has also reacted on this issue for the first time. Emphasizing the importance of movement of skilled professionals between India and America, India said that it benefits both the countries. This reaction of India has come at a time when even the newly elected President of America Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk are continuously giving statements on this issue.
Elon Musk defended the H-1B visa program in his recent post on social media, saying, “The reason I’m in America is with so many important people who built SpaceX, Tesla, and hundreds of other companies that make America stronger.” Is H-1B.” He said, “I will fight this issue in a way that you cannot possibly understand.”
Disagreements among Trump’s allies
This debate has exposed the deep divisions among Trump’s allies and their differing opinions. Some people are supporting the H-1B visa program as necessary for the tech industry, while others are seeing it as a threat to the jobs of American people.
Despite previously signing an executive order to block access to such visas, Trump himself is now expressing his support for the program.
Both countries are taking advantage of this: India
India’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that there is a strong economic and technological partnership between the two countries. Mobility of skilled professionals is an important factor. He emphasized that India-US economic relations greatly benefit from the technical expertise provided by these professionals. With this, both sides are taking advantage of their strengths and competitive pricing.
When asked about the H-1B visa discussion in the US, Jaiswal said in a press conference, “Both countries have a strong and growing economic and technology partnership and mobility of skilled professionals is an important component in this framework.”
He said, “India-US economic relations greatly benefit from the technical expertise provided by skilled professionals, with both sides leveraging their strengths and competitive pricing. We look forward to further deepening India-US economic relations that will enhance our “For mutual benefit.”
India got 78 percent H1B visas
The figures also speak for themselves. India had received about 78% of the 2,65,777 H-1B visas issued by the US during the last one year from September 30, 2023. This explains the important role of Indian professionals in the American tech industry.
Despite opposition from some of his supporters, Trump has given his full support to the H-1B program. Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has also vowed to defend the program. He said that he is ready to go to “war” for this.
Increase in bilateral trade between the two countries
America and India want to strengthen their relations during Trump’s rule. India’s Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has already met Trump’s team. The country is eager to deepen its economic ties with the US, recognizing the mutual benefits in partnership with them.
This is part of a broader trend of US-India cooperation, with bilateral trade growing by 7.65% to US$129 billion in 2022-23.
After all, the movement of skilled professionals between India and America is an important aspect of their economic and technological partnership. As both countries continue to navigate the complexities of this relationship, it is clear that mutual benefit and cooperation will remain a top priority.
