Why yashasvi jaiswal moved to goa: India’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s sudden decision to go from Mumbai to Goa made headlines on Wednesday. Jaiswal on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Mumbai Cricket Association expressed his desire to go from Mumbai to Goa and the operational organization immediately accepted his request. Jaiswal will now play for Goa in the 2025-26 season, where he can be appointed captain. However, it is not yet understood how much time he will be able to give to the state team in view of the busy international calendar.
In an interview, Jaiswal revealed that he had gone to Goa due to new opportunities. Talking to The Indian Express, Jaiswal said, “This was a very difficult decision for me. Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me what I am, and I will be indebted to MCA throughout my life.”
He added, “Goa has given me a new opportunity and it has offered me the role of leadership. My first goal will be to perform well for India and whenever I will not be on national duty, I will play for Goa and try to take them forward in the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity that came to me and I took it.”
However, in a report by India Today, some interesting claims have been made about the possible reason for Jaiswal’s departure. The report said that ‘people close to the situation’ have said that the young left-handed batsman was not happy with the ‘continuous scrutiny’ in the Mumbai set-up and the things were not good for the last two years.
The report claimed that the relationship between Jaiswal and Ajinkya Rahane (Mumbai first class captain) was ‘unstable’. It claimed that the ‘quarrel’ between two players of the Indian cricket team started in 2022 when Rahane had dropped Jaiswal for sledging in a match.
Jaiswal scored a double century by scoring 265 runs in the second innings of the match with the help of 30 fours and four sixes, but on the last day of the struggle, the captain of the western region sent him out of the ground to do excessive sledging of the south region batsman Ravi Teja.
It was also said in the report that ‘constant questions’ were being raised about Jaiswal’s shot selection. The ‘final blow’ came when the Mumbai team management criticized Jaiswal after a poor performance in the Mumbai vs Jammu and Kashmir match. Mumbai coaches Omkar Salvi and Rahane apparently questioned Jaiswal’s commitment. The report claimed that ‘people close to the situation’ said that angry Jaiswal also kicked on the kitbag of captain Rahane.
A PTI report also indicated the same by referring to Jaiswal’s rift with a ‘senior player’. The report of the news agency said, “It is also believed that Jaiswal’s decision to go to Goa could be due to their displeasure with the Mumbai team management.”
“In the competition against Jammu and Kashmir in the last season, sources said that in the second innings, Jayaswal had a rift with a senior member of the team, as his shot selection was later questioned as Mumbai was struggling to save the game. In response, Jaiswal retaliated on the senior who questioned his shot in the first innings.”
