Demand to include public communication subjects in schools, media trained opportunities get opportunities

In an online meeting of public communication experts and alumni across the country, there was a demand that mass communication should be included in schools as a subject, and it should be taught only by teachers who have formal education and practical experiences in the field. This meeting was the sequel to the previous meeting held on 4 May, in which it was shared that in the changing times, mass communication should be found in school education.

As other subjects join as subject

In the meeting, the speakers suggested that just as subjects like music, art, yoga and dance are part of the school courses, Mass Communication should also be included as an alternative or compulsory subject.

He also informed that at the moment some private schools are being taught chapters related to mass communication under social science, but they are taught other teachers instead of subject experts, so that students do not get the deepest understanding of the subject.

Media literacy time demand

Speakers said that in today’s time when every student is associated with smartphones and social media, media literacy has become a very important life-skill. Students should be taught essential aspects like identification of information, check -up of truth and responsible communication.

New opportunities for employment and education

The idea also came to light in the meeting that by including the subject of mass communication at the school level, not only will students get new career options, but will also get an opportunity to teach the experts who have studied mass communication in schools.

Demand will reach policy makers

All the participants decided that a concrete proposal would be prepared and sent to NCERT, CBSE, SCERT and Ministry of Education as well as education departments of all states, so that the subject can be started at the national level.

Many guest teachers, researchers and students were present in the meeting including Dr. Munkesh Shukla, Devesh Vishwakarma, Sachin Yadav, Anand Kumar, Harishankar Soni, Sridam Dhali, Navneet Sharma Aman, Jyoti, Anil. Everyone emphasized that mass communication should not be a subject, but it should be assigned to qualified hands.
