Stock Market Today: The Indian stock market started flat on January 3, 2025. Both BSE Sensex and National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty 50 opened with slight gains. BSE Sensex opened at 80,072.99, up marginally by 129.28 points (0.16%), while NSE Nifty 50 opened at 24,196.40, up 7.75 points (0.032%). However, after this Sensex-Nifty went into the red.
After the decline in initial trading, selling dominated the market. Around 10 am, BSE Sensex was trading at 79,421.09 points with a fall of 522.62 points (0.65%) and NIFTY 50 was also trading at 24,053.25 points with a fall of 135.40 points (0.56%).
Rise in many shares of Adani Group
Many shares of Adani Group opened on the green mark today, in which the maximum rise was seen in the shares of Adani Green. This stock rose by more than 2 percent in early trade. Apart from this, Adani Energy Solutions, Adani Ports, Adani Power, Adani Total Gas are also among the stocks that registered gains today.

Among Sensex listed stocks, TCS, ITC, Zomato, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance, L&T, Bajaj Finance and ICICI Bank were the top losers. Whereas, HCL Tech, SBI, M&M, Adani Ports, Maruti Suzuki and IndusInd Bank were the top gainers.
Strong welcome for the stock market in the new year
Let us tell you that yesterday i.e. on Thursday, the Indian stock market welcomed the new year 2025 with great enthusiasm. BSE Sensex closed at 79,943.71 with a gain of 1,436.30 points or 1.83%, which is the biggest single-day rise in more than a month. During trading, the Sensex had reached 1,525.46 points. At the same time, Nifty 50 of National Stock Exchange also closed at 24,188.65 points with a gain of 445.75 points or 1.88%.
Investors’ wealth increased rapidly in the last two days
Investors’ wealth in the Indian stock market increased by Rs 8.52 lakh crore due to two consecutive days of rise. Overall, BSE Sensex increased its market capitalization by Rs 8,52,239.27 crore in the last two days to reach Rs 4,50,47,345.71 crore.
Role of foreign institutional investors
According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) are making net purchases in the capital market. He bought shares worth Rs 1,506.75 crore on Thursday.
