The temperature has dropped due to snowfall in many hilly areas of the country and rain in the plains. The Meteorological Department has predicted the minimum temperature to fall to zero or below in some areas of the country on Monday. The temperature in Gulmarg and Pahalgam of Kashmir remains below zero. Severe cold continues in the rest of the valley also.

The Meteorological Department has predicted a cold wave and rain and snowfall in North India in the last days of the year 2024 and the beginning of the new year 2025. The Meteorological Department has said that from December 30 to January 2, cold wave may prevail in some areas of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. There will be a drop in temperature in western and eastern Uttar Pradesh on Monday, 29 December.

The minimum temperature in Uttar Pradesh may drop by 4-6 degrees Celsius during the coming 5 days. There is a possibility of a drop of 3-4 degrees Celsius in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan during the next 3 days.

Temperature will drop in central and eastern India

The Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of a drop of 3-5 degrees Celsius in the temperature in Central India during the next 5 days. The temperature in eastern India may also drop by 3-4 degrees Celsius during the next 3 days. There is a possibility of a drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature in Maharashtra during the next 5 days.

The Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of cold wave conditions in different areas of Punjab and Haryana from December 31 to January 2 and in Rajasthan from December 30 to January 2.

Fog conditions are likely to persist in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from December 29 to January 2.

The Meteorological Department said that there may be heavy rain or snowfall in North-East Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh on Monday. From Monday, there may be dense fog along with cold wave in the hilly and plain areas of Himachal Pradesh. Rain may continue in and around Shimla.

The temperature in Pahalgam was minus 8.5 degrees.

There has been a sharp drop in temperature due to snowfall in the hilly areas. The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature was recorded below minus 8.0 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, a tourist spot famous for skiing activities in North Kashmir. The minimum temperature in Pahalgam, the base camp of the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, was recorded at minus 8.5 degrees Celsius. The mercury dropped by minus 0.2 degrees Celsius in Srinagar on Saturday night, which was two degrees more than the normal temperature at this time.

The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature in Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, was recorded below minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Konnibal of Parampur was recorded below minus 1.0 degrees Celsius. Kupwara in North Kashmir recorded a temperature of minus 1.0 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag in South Kashmir recorded a temperature of 1.8 degrees Celsius.

The atrocities of ‘Chilla-e-Kalan’ in Kashmir

The probability of snowfall is maximum during the 40 days of ‘Chilla-e-Kalan’ (period of maximum cold) in Kashmir and the temperature drops significantly. ‘Chilla-e-Kalan’ will begin on December 21 and end on January 31 next year, but the cold wave will continue in the valley as it will be followed by 20-day ‘Chilla-e-Khurd’ (small winter) and 10-day ‘ There will be a period of ‘chila-e-bachcha’.

Heavy snowfall in Uttarkashi

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy snowfall and rain in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. This may further increase the cold in these areas. The administration has given instructions to be cautious in these areas. This alert is especially for Gangotri, Yamunotri and other high altitude areas, where there is a higher possibility of snowfall and rain. There has been heavy rain in Uttarkashi district headquarters and other areas. The temperature has dropped due to heavy rain.

After continuous snowfall in Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham of Uttarakhand, there was light sunshine on Sunday, but there is a possibility of snowfall again and increase in cold in the next few days. This area is located in a high mountainous area, where sudden changes in weather are common.

Severe cold in Uttarakhand

After heavy snowfall in the high Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand, there is severe cold in the state. At present, due to snowfall in Kedarnath Dham, up to one and a half feet of snow has accumulated. Due to this, the cold in the area has increased further and the temperature has gone to minus.

A drop in temperature has also been recorded in other parts of the state. Continuous snowfall continues in the higher reaches of Rudraprayag district, due to which the severity of cold in the morning and night has increased even in the lower areas. Due to snowfall, there has been a huge drop in temperature and the effect of cold is being felt more.
