Famous actor Rajkumar of about 50-60s often used to call people ‘arrogant’ actor. However, those who knew him closely believed that the actor was an uncontrolled and confidant. Actually, Rajkumar used to say anything to anyone, whether he is a big producer, director or actor. Once, he insulted Rajesh Khanna in a full gathering. During the premiere of the film ‘Amar Prem’, Rajkumar compared Rajesh Khanna to the dog. In a film, being replaced by a junior actor, Rajkumar passed away and during the premiere, his anger broke out on Rajesh Khanna, who played the lead role in the film. This is when Rajesh Khanna started emerging like industry star.
Insulting
Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore played lead roles in the film Amar Prem. The film was a big hit and Anand Babu’s character gave Rajesh Khanna a distinct identity. However, this film was first offered to Rajkumar. Rajkumar was charging a hefty fee for this film, while the budget of the film was low. Because of this, the makers were confused and started thinking about taking another actor. As soon as Rajesh Khanna got aware of this, he spoke to the director of the film Shakti Samanta.
Rajesh Khanna reduced his fees for this film. When the film was ready, the director also invited Rajkumar at the film premiere. The anger of the junior actor being replaced, Rajkumar took off Rajesh Khanna in a full gathering. Rajkumar said, ‘By eating our thrown pieces, the dog also becomes a bulldog, Rajesh Khanna will also become a superstar tomorrow by doing our missing film.’
Kaka used to shoot for four hours every day
Rajesh Khanna had done films like ‘Aradhana’ and ‘Kati Kite’ with Shakti Samantha before ‘Amar Prem’. There was a good friendship between the two and on the other side the makers were unable to fulfill the demand of the prince. Despite Rajesh Khanna’s calendar was full, he said yes to the film. When director Shakti Samantha asked Rajesh Khanna about the date, Kaka said that he will manage in his own way. Along with shooting other films, Rajesh Khanna used to shoot for ‘Amar Prem’ for about four hours every day. Released in 1972, the film became the highest grossing 13th film of the year. The songs of the film were quite hits and are heard even today.
