Washington:
Donald Trump has signed a record number of executive orders less than six hours after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. Shortly after being sworn in, Donald Trump delivered his inaugural address, in which he announced executive orders he planned to sign on the first day of his second term. He then gave a second speech after watching the presidential parade, where he said he would sign 80 executive orders to reverse steps taken by the Biden administration. “We will first sign executive orders to rescind approximately 80 destructive and radical executive actions of the previous administration,” he said.
Describing the orders he signed less than six hours after being sworn in, President Trump said his top priority would be to declare a national emergency at the US southern border with Mexico. He said, ‘All illegal entries will be stopped immediately, and we will begin the process of sending millions of criminals back to the places from where they came.’ He said that he will order the deployment of troops on the border.
The President also said that his first day’s orders will include curbing immigration, boosting fossil fuel production and withdrawing environmental regulations such as the 2021 Paris Climate Agreement.
What are executive orders?
In an interview with NBC News, Trump said he planned to sign a record number of executive actions on his first day. Executive order is an order issued unilaterally by the President, which has the force of law. Unlike statutes, executive orders do not require congressional approval. Congress cannot overturn them, but they can be challenged in court. Trump said that we have a record-setting number of documents, which I will sign immediately after this (swearing-in) speech.
