Bihar Former Minister Minister Mohammad Ilyas Hussain Sentanced Jail: A special CBI court in Ranchi gave a big verdict in the much -talked about Bitumen scam and sentenced five accused, including the then minister of Bihar government Mohammad Ilyas Hussain, for three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 32 lakh. This decision is being considered a major action against corruption.

What is bitumen scam
Investigation of the case revealed that the transportation of Bitumen from Haldia to RCD Hazaribagh was depicted on paper, but no Bitumen really reached Hazaribagh. The accused picked up the bitumen from Haldia and sold it in the open market of Kolkata and made a fake claim of transport fee from the government. It is also called Alkatara scam.
Court decision
On 29 March 2025, the special CBI court convicted the five accused under Section 13 (2) maintained 13 (1) (d) of 120B, 407, 409, 420, 468, 471 IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
Punishment:
- Three years rigorous imprisonment
- A fine of Rs 32 lakh on each
