Raipur:
Security forces have got a big success in Chhattisgarh. On Wednesday, 27 Naxalites, including one crore prize Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju, were killed in a major action of security forces. Former Chhattisgarh DGP DM Awasthi, while talking to news agency IANS, praised the government’s action against Naxalism and called it historic. He claimed that if the government continues such action, then Naxalism can be abolished before the scheduled time.

Question: How do you see this entire Naxal operation?

answer : The operation against Naxalism on Wednesday 21 May should be considered as the most successful operation in history. For the last 30 years, Bastar region was facing the problem of Naxalism. Hundreds of soldiers and officials lost their lives to free this land from red terror. Gradually, action continued against Naxalism. The action taken on the last one year and especially on Wednesday should be called a milestone or record. Basavaraju died and many Naxalites were killed with him. In today’s history, the general secretary level Naxalite has never been killed in the encounter.

Question: Basavaraju used to live in a big security circle, so how much would the soldiers have to struggle?

answer : The input of the force that went was good. It will have to be said that intelligence information and planning were very good. Such a big top leader of Naxalites used to live in a big security circle. He used to live under the protection of at least 30 to 50 personal bodyguards, who live big trend commandos. By facing all of them, the way success has been achieved, I understand that this is the most successful operation against Naxalism in the history of India. Those who planned and brought it to the end, the soldiers who went to the inaccessible area and praised them are less.

Question: In Chhattisgarh, a DRG team was formed to eradicate Naxalites, earlier in Chhattisgarh, CRPF and other battalions were fighting with Naxalites, so how much benefit was done from becoming a DRG team?

answer : In 2016, I became a die of operation against Naxalites, since PM Modi’s government came to the country in 2014, a policy was made to end Naxalism. At that time, Dr. Raman Singh was the Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh. DRG was built in around 2015. In 2016, we got special training from the prestigious institute of India while recruiting the DRG soldiers, in which they got training in Jungle War. After which the entire force was trended by the end of 2016. By the end of 2016, Chhattisgarh’s own force had come in such a situation that CRPF and Cobra could perform the operation with them. After that the operation started and various types of planning were done. There was also a lot of success in 2017-18. Roads were built and development works were done. As roads were built, we kept entering the Maoist areas. Now DRG has become a very professional force and has shown a big operation.

Question: A target has been set to abolish Naxalism by March 2026, is it possible?

answer : I understand that the action that took place against the Naxalites in a few months, the Naxalites who have been killed in the operation, what, should end Naxalism only by December 2025, it is my estimate. The Home Minister has kept the deadline of March 2026, as a result of which the campaign is going on. If the kind of success has been achieved, if we run in this way, then Naxalism will end before the scheduled time.

Question: There is a constant appeal for peace talks on behalf of the Naxalites, do you think that after the killing of such a big cadre, you will talk about Naxalite peace talks?

answer : I understand that Naxalites are on the backfoot very badly today, because for some time, those people themselves have been bringing proposals for peace talks themselves. Whenever proposals for peace talks come, they are on the backfoot, because they have to re -connect their strength. The central and state governments have kept a policy of dedication, in such a situation, they can surrender if they want. If they do not make peace and will not run with the Constitution of India, in such a situation the operation will continue and when big leaders are killed, small people will have to surrender in the same way.

Question: After such a big operation, the border areas of Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will also be seen going on the backfoot there too?

answer : There was a lot of Naxalism in Telangana. When he was part of Andhra Pradesh, the police performed operations there for many years and to a large extent Naxalism ended there. In this area of Chhattisgarh, taking advantage of the forest, the Naxalites tried to continue their operation. In such a situation, after the end of Naxalism here, I do not think they have any scope left.
