Mumbai:
‘Main Atal Rahunga’ program was organized on 25 December at Bapu Auditorium located at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, the capital of Bihar, which was organized on the occasion of the birth centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In this program, famous folk singer Devi presented the bhajan ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Patit Pavan Sitaram’. But as soon as the singer said the line ‘Ishwar-Allah tero naam’, there was an uproar in the gathering. Some people started protesting, due to which the singer had to apologize.
On this whole controversy, singer Devi told IANS, “The atmosphere was fine till I started the song, but as soon as the line ‘Ishwar-Allah tero naam’ came in it, some people present there started protesting. I For a moment I was not able to understand what was happening. Later I realized that there was a problem in the name of Allah. this song There is nothing like that in me. Then I came among the people and I told them that if anything of mine has hurt you then I want to say ‘sorry’.”
The singer said she apologized to people after the uproar, although she believes she had “no need to apologize”. Devi said that from my heart I did not want to apologize. Seeing the commotion of the people, I thought that these people might start vandalism. The people who invited me should not suffer any harm. I had to apologize to calm the situation.
She said, “It was not a big deal for me, because I knew that this song was not hurting anyone, but it was giving a good message.” Devi said that she had chosen this song because it is Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite bhajan and no other song could have been better on this stage.
Devi told that the uproar continued for about 10 minutes and the people present on the stage were trying to calm the atmosphere. Meanwhile, Ashwini Choubey also came on the stage and appealed to the people to remain calm. After this, chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ were also raised. I feel that at this time a big leader should have come forward and said that there is nothing wrong in this song.
The singer told that despite this controversy, she was honored with the ‘Special Atal Samman’. This was an unexpected honor for me, because I did not think that there would be any controversy regarding this song. This song has always been about uniting people and I think the people protesting did not understand it properly.
The singer targeted the Hindu Putra Organization regarding this protest and said that this protest was wrong. He said that this song is a favorite hymn of Mahatma Gandhi and it is not right to protest against it. I demand action against these people and will continue to sing such hymns in future also. Expressing his displeasure over the entire controversy, he said that this song gives a positive message and criticizing it is incomprehensible. The culture of our country is to take everyone along. If someone has a problem with someone’s religion, it does not mean that we should create controversy over a good song.
