Impact of PLI Scheme: Smartphone reached number two in things exported from India: Ashwini Vaishnav

Union Railway and Electronics and IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnav said on Thursday that the smartphone has now reached the second number in the country’s exports. It was on the 14th four years ago. Smartphone Export by India is the result of the growth of production linked incentive scheme, in which the government is focusing on increasing the production of electronics goods domestically.

Ashwini Vaishnav wrote on the social media post, “The smartphone is at second rank in the country’s exports. It was at number 14, four years ago. It is the big milestone of the PLI scheme.”

PLI Scheme increased India’s competition capacity globally

The Union Minister further said that the PLI scheme has increased India’s competition capacity globally. This has created a large number of employment opportunities as skills increase. According to Ashwini, ecosystem is developing rapidly in the country. This sector is ready to compete with the world’s best products. India’s top five exports now include motor vehicle fuel, smartphones, aviation fuels, diamonds and motor gasoline.

The central government has given an incentive of Rs 1,600 crore to companies in the first half of FY 2024-25 under the Production-Linked (PLI) scheme. Out of this, 964 crore rupees have been released to companies doing electronics manufacturing on a large scale in India.

Country’s electronic export rose by 27.4 percent to $ 22.5 billion

Electronics Goods has emerged as the fastest growing segment in India’s export baskets. The reason for this is the success of the Center’s PLI scheme, which has established a large number of electronics goods manufacturing units in the country. The country’s electronic exports increased by 27.4 percent to $ 22.5 billion in April-November of 2024-25, compared to $ 17.66 billion during the same period of 2023-24.

Experts expected to rise in exports with the introduction of semiconductor manufacturing plants

According to experts, electronics exports are expected to rise further after the commencement of semiconductor manufacturing plants in the country. The approval was given. It is the fifth semiconductor unit to be sanctioned under the Bharat Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and the second unit to be established in Sanand.
