Directed by Subhash Ghai, there were many big actors in this film. The film is known for coming together after years of cinema’s two veterans Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar. It is shown in the film that childhood friends become enemies in puberty. In the film, both superstars have given the best performance of their career. Jackie Shroff, Mukesh Khanna, Anupam Kher and Amrish Puri were also in important roles in the film. Apart from these, the lead actors in Saudagar were Vivek Mushran and Manisha Koirala and this was the first film of both.
After this film, both Vivek and Manisha became stars overnight. Later, Manisha established herself as a very talented actress, while Vivek Mushran could not do anything special in her cinematic career. Vivek was not the first choice for the film
Few people will know that he was not the first choice for the role of Vivek Mushran in Saudagar. Subhash Ghai had told that Aamir’s chocolate look was perfect for Vasu’s character in the film. He was approached for this film. However, Aamir was already a star at that time, he worked in hit films like Qayamat to Qayamat and what Jeeta Wahi Wahi Sikander. He felt that Vasu’s character in the film was very small. Aamir rejected the film and got this role debutant Vivek Mushran.
