New Delhi:
The death of a youth in the campus of a government hospital in Mysore, the home district of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has raised questions on the system. He could not afford to pay the fare of Rs 30 to sleep in the hospital dormitory. In such a situation, he slept under the open sky and died.
Whether the cause of death of 35 year old Shiv Gopa Laiya, wrapped in a blanket, was cold or something else, will be clear after the post-mortem. But Shivagopa had told that he did not have Rs 30 to pay the dormitory rent, so he had to sleep outside.
MMCRI Superintendent Dr R Sudha Medical said, we provide free dormitories to very poor people, however, we charge Rs 30 from the rest. Going forward we are going to make this also free. The cause of death will be known only after the post mortem report comes.
Shiv Gopa Laiya had admitted his pregnant wife to the hospital. A son was born. A doctor paid for the milk and the food was arranged by the attendants of other patients. But the dormitory form was not filled. He spent three nights under the open sky. Although Mysore does not experience cold like North India, yet the death of Shiv Gopa Laiya is going to shock everyone.
