New Delhi:
Stock Market Opening: The impact of increasing tension between India and Pakistan was seen directly on the stock market today. The market started with a huge decline on Friday, 9 May 2025. In the pre-opening session itself, there was a concern on the faces of investors that the market fell from the bend as soon as it opened.
Pressure for selling in pre-opening
In pre-opening at 9:09 am, the BSE Sensex fell 1366 points to 78,968, which was about 1.70% decline. At the same time, the Nifty 50 index fell 338 points to 23,935.
A few minutes after the market opened, there was a little recovery. At 9:15 am, the Sensex was trading 522 points to 79,812, while the Nifty was 150 points to around 24,122.
Frequent boom in defense sector shares
The impact of the increasing tension between India and Pakistan was clearly visible on the stock market on 9 May. However, in this atmosphere, there was a tremendous rise in the shares of the defense sector. The shares of Ideaforge Technology jumped 14% to Rs 441. India Dynamics shares gained around 3% and it closed at Rs 1497. Hindustan Aeronautics rose 2.2% to Rs 4521, while India was seen trading at Rs 313 with a gain of 2.1%. Paras defense shares also climbed around 3%. Defense stocks have increased by up to 12% in the last one month. Investors hope that the government can increase the defense budget if stress increases, which can bring new contracts and demand in this sector.
Stress on the border has an impact on the stock market
According to the information, 8 missiles launched by Pakistan late on Thursday night were intercepted by India’s air defense system. These missiles were targeting areas of India border areas. After this, India also retaliated, which further increased the tension. For this reason, on Thursday, the market had closed down about 200 points from the high level of the day.
More impact on mid and small cap stocks
Small and medium stocks saw a more decline than the Nifty. Investors are still vigilance and are avoiding taking more risk. Currently there is uncertainty in the market, so investors should avoid haste. How the market mood will be today will depend on the situation on the Indo-Pak border to a great extent.
