Gautam Gambhir wanted Cheteshwar Pujara in Team India: The Indian cricket team is currently on Australian tour, where Team India is trailing 1-2 in the five-match series. The last match of this series is to be held in Sydney and Team India will have to win this test at any cost to preserve its chances of the World Test Championship.
Apart from the Indian team, the Sydney Test is also no less than a litmus test for captain Rohit Sharma because there are reports that the Sydney Test could be the last Test of Rohit Sharma’s career. In such a situation, Rohit would like to put an end to the criticism by performing brilliantly.
However, not only Rohit Sharma but from Virat Kohli to the top order batsmen of the Indian team are struggling for runs and batting is the reason behind India losing the two matches in the series. But India would not have been in such a situation if the selectors had listened to coach Gautam Gambhir.
The Indian team is getting further stuck in the quagmire after losing the fourth Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. It has been revealed that head coach Gautam Gambhir wanted experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara in the team but the selectors rejected the coach’s decision. This demand was rejected. The report claims that even after India won the first Test in Perth, Gambhir talked about the 36-year-old Saurashtra batsman.
Pujara, who has played more than 100 Tests for India, is out of Team India since the 2023 World Test Championship final. Even though Pujara may not have performed well in the final of the World Test Championship, Pujara played an important role in the last two Border-Gavaskar Trophy series wins in Australia by India.
Pujara has scored 993 runs in 11 matches in Australia at an average of 47.28. Pujara was the top run scorer in the 2018-19 series by scoring 521 runs in 1258 balls. Three years later, he once again proved to be the backbone of Indian batting, when he scored 271 runs in 928 balls.
However, apart from this, Gautam Gambhir is also under question due to many other cases. If reports are to be believed, the Indian dressing room was reportedly unanimous on Gambhir’s decision to go with Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar in the Perth Test.
