Team India Test Captain for Eng Tour: Mohammed Shami’s ability to survive in the five -Test series may be suspected, but former National Selection Committee members MSK Prasad, Devang Gandhi and Jatin Paranjpe clearly believe that ‘Amroha Express’ should be selected for the tour of England. Shami has played nine IPL matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season, in which he has taken only six wickets and has given more than 11 runs per over. However, it is learned that Shami has started bowling with red dux on SRH’s net keeping in mind the tour of England, as now SRH’s play-off qualification hopes have collapsed. While the members of the former committee vary from their selection of vice-captains, they were unanimous that no one could see beyond Jaspreet Bumrah, even though there is a question mark on their fitness situation. PTI has now given a list of personally selected “team” by Prasad, Gandhi and Paranjpe and has also given some insight about why they chose their players.

“My captain Jaspreet will be Bumrah as he has already proved himself as a leader. As far as my vice-captain is concerned, I would like Shubman Gill to gain some experience as the deputy of Bumrah. If you have any problem with Bumrah’s fitness, then my choice is KL Rahul,” Prasad said.
“As far as I assess, Nitish Reddy’s bowling in England will be more effective than Australia. If we are taking 16 players, I will choose the left -handed swing bowler and my choice is Arshdeep Singh. I would like KL Rahul to bat at number 4 and my reserve opener will be Abhimanyu Ishwar.”

“I think it is surprising that the debate is going on whether Mohammed Shami will be able to make a place in the Indian team or not. Unless he is injured. I will take six expert pace in the UK, knowing that I have enough back-up for a five-match series.
“My additional batsman will be Shreyas Iyer. Iyer has played some Tests and he is in excellent form at the moment. There has been a lot of change in both his technology and nature. In my opinion, Iyer’s selection is easy and he should also be part of the playing XI. We need to feed six (including Rishabh Pant) at the beginning of the series.”
