Gill has never captained the Test or ODI, but he has led the team in five T20s. All these matches were played on a tour of Zimbabwe in 2024, who were at rest after winning the T20 World Cup. Gill is being prepared for the top role for the last few months. He has done well as the captain and batsman of Gujarat Titans (GT) in this season of IPL. Gill has been a regular member in India’s Test team since Test debut in Melbourne in December 2020. He has played a total of 32 Tests so far, in which he has scored 1893 runs at an average of 35.05. This includes five centuries and seven half -centuries.
