Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘self -sufficient vision’, India is moving towards self -sufficiency in pulses. In the last 10 years, export of pulses in the country has increased rapidly than imports. According to data from the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, “India’s exports of pulses were Rs 4,437 crore in the April-December period of FY 25, compared to Rs 1,218 crore in the entire financial year 15.” In this way, India’s pulses exports have increased by 264.29 percent in the last 10 years. ”
On the other hand, during this time there has been an increase of 86.45 percent in imports. In the April-December period of FY 25 in the country, pulses worth Rs 31,814 crore have been imported. At the same time, this figure was Rs 17,063 crore in FY 15.
There was an increase in 10 years of UPA rule
At the same time, in the 10 years of the Congress -led UPA reign, there was an increase of 187.6 percent in the exports of pulses and imports increased by 457.1 percent.
In FY14, India exported pulses worth Rs 1,749 crore. This figure was Rs 608 crore in FY 05.
In FY14 under the UPA rule, India imported pulses worth Rs 11,037 crore. At the same time, this figure was at Rs 1,981 crore in FY 05.
Payment of Rs 93,544 crore to pulses farmers
The BJP -led NDA government is also working continuously to increase the income of farmers. The NDA government has paid a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 93,544 crore to the farmers of pulses, while the UPA government had paid only Rs 1,936 crore to the farmers of pulses during their reign.
The central government is continuously working on self -sufficiency in pulses.
In the budget 2025-26 by the central government, it was announced that 100 percent of tur (arhar), urad and lentils will be purchased for four years by central nodal agencies to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses in the country.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has approved the purchase of Tuar (Arhar), Masoor and Urad to the limit of 13.22 lakh MT (LMT), 9.40 LMT and 1.35 LMT respectively.
