The US Senate approved Kash Patel as the new director of the Bureau of Investigation (FBI). With this, 44 -year -old Patel has become the first Indian American to become the head of FBI. Patel, a former intelligence officer and a staunch associate of President Donald Trump, was a polarized person during the nomination process.
Who is Kash Patel?
Patel, 44, has been one of the most controversial people nominated by President Donald Trump in his cabinet and administration. He is a former public defender, who has rapidly influenced the politics of Washington DC.
Some of the Republican party senators had earlier raised doubts on his nomination, but in the end he supported President Trump’s decision. Others – National Intelligence Director, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have been confirmed in party -line voting, which is also expected to win Patel.
However, Matt Gatez, who was nominated for the post of Attorney General, had to withdraw his name as some Republican Senator was uncomfortable with the allegations against him.
During the first term of Donald Trump, he was assigned several important responsibilities, including the role of the Chief of Staff in the Defense Department and the post of Deputy Director of National Intelligence.
Trump has now been nominated by the FBI chief, an agency that in 2021 investigated the alleged misuse of classified documents against Trump and the President Joe Biden to try to reverse the defeat in the 2020 election.
Patel’s appointment is considered politically important. Now everyone’s eyes are on the final polling to be held on Thursday, where it will be decided to become their FBI director.
