Indian students are leaving part time jobs due to fear of deportation. According to a report in The Times of India, the students said that such jobs are necessary to survive in America, but they cannot risk their future. He has taken a big loan to get a seat in a college in America. If they get deported for some reason, they will be left with nowhere. This situation has happened after President Donald Trump took oath on January 20, as his administration has indicated strict immigration rules.

International students in the US on F-1 visas can work on campus up to 20 hours a week, but many students work off-campus in restaurants, gas stations, retail stores to cover essential expenses. However, students are now leaving such jobs to secure their future.

How will things work now?

Arjun, a graduate student in Illinois, said, “After college, I used to work in a small cafe to meet my monthly expenses. I used to earn $7 per hour and worked six hours every day. Although I Left the job a week after hearing that the immigration authorities might crack down on unauthorized work. Students said they will assess the current situation before deciding on resuming their part-time jobs. Till that time, they will survive by borrowing from their friends or taking help from family. However, this will not be a permanent solution. “I have already used up most of my savings and have started borrowing from my roommate. I don’t know how long I can live like this,” said Rohan. He said he feels guilty about asking his parents for money, but he may have to do so soon.

Students are under a lot of mental stress due to this situation.

India has currently agreed to take undocumented Indian citizens from America. It is feared that thousands of people may be deported from America. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on the claims being made about this number, “I caution you about the numbers, because for us, a number will be decided only when we can actually validate the fact that the person concerned Is of Indian origin.”
