India’s coffee exports up by 40 percent in the April-February period of the current financial year

India’s coffee exports have increased by 40 percent to $ 1.54 billion in the April-February period of the current financial year, which was $ 1.10 billion in the same period last year. This information was given by the Ministry of Commerce. According to official data, coffee exports increased by 22 percent to $ 178.68 million in February, compared to $ 146.08 million in the same period last year.

In Indian rupees, the country’s coffee exports increased by 43.37 percent to Rs 13,004.75 crore in the April-February period of the current financial year, which was Rs 9,070 crore in the same period of the previous financial year.

India is the fifth largest coffee exporter in the world

Indian coffee’s top export markets include Italy, Germany, Russia, Belgium, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and America. India is the seventh largest producer and fifth largest exporter of coffee in the world. Prices due to lack of supply due to adverse weather in Brazil and Vietnam, the largest producing countries of coffee, are at record levels. India exports more than two-thirds of coffee more than 3.5 lakh tonnes of coffee produced domestically.

Coffee exports almost doubled in the last four years

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday, India’s coffee exports have almost doubled in the last four years to $ 1.29 billion in FY 2023-24, which was $ 719.42 million in 2020-21. With this, the country has become the seventh largest coffee producer globally.

Coffee in India is mainly grown in the western and eastern ghats, which are renowned areas for their biodiversity. Karnataka leads to coffee production, which contributed 2.48,020 MT in 2022-23, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Coffee consumption is increasing continuously in India too

Coffee consumption in India is also increasing continuously due to increasing cafe culture, greater spending income and increasing priority of coffee than tea. Domestic consumption in the country has increased from 84,000 tonnes in 2012 to 91,000 tonnes in 2023.
