New Delhi:
It is true that the stars appear on the film’s poster and they are also put forward in promotion. For most of the big Indian films, only the lead actor works to gather the crowd. Therefore, they are also given very heavy fees. But there are some film directors who also compete with big stars in terms of fan following and popularity. One of these also competes with superstars in the case of fees, which also makes big names with their high fees.
India’s highest fee film maker
Telugu film maker SS Rajamouli is currently the highest fee film director of India. According to IMDD, directors charge about ₹ 200 crores for each of their films. Trade insider says that this includes their upfront fees, profit shares and bonuses for the sale of rights. The more a film earns, the more its share can be. It was about ₹ 200 crores for RRR. Rajamouli earned this huge amount due to the success of his Bahubali franchise. Rajamouli has become one of the highest -grossing film actors in the country with an earning of 200 crores. Superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan also charge 150-180 crores for every film, which is less than Rajamouli’s earnings.
Why do Rajamouli charge so much fees?
More fees show the superstar status of a director among the film makers. Despite the presence of two big stars – Ram Charan and Junior NTR, RRR was sold as Rajamouli’s film in North. This is because the success of Bahubali films has given him a chance to become famous all over India.
Bahubali 2 earned 510 crores in Hindi alone and remained the highest grossing film in Hindi for six years until Pathan left it behind in 2023. Similarly, RRR also earned more than 270 crores in Hindi.
The highest paid actors of Indian cinema
According to the sources of the industry, no other directors charge half of the fees compared to Rajamouli. Big names like Sandeep Reddy Wanga and Prashant Neil take around ₹ 90 crore per film. Rajkumar Hirani takes ₹ 80 crore, while Sukumar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraja and Siddharth Anand are behind. These people take more than ₹ 40 crore every film. Makers like Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty usually make their own films themselves, which is why they do not charge and only take profits.
