Manufacturing sector performs strong performance in March 2025

The country’s economy has performed strongly in March 2025. Due to the rapid increase in power generation, the country’s industrial production increased by three percent. This information has been given in the data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation on Monday. According to the ministry data, there has been an increase of 6.3 percent in power generation in March, while the production of mining sector has recorded a slight 0.4 percent decline. The manufacturing sector, which holds a share of more than 77 percent in the Industrial Production Index, increased by three percent.

Strong performance in manufacturing sector

The most contributed to the growth of this sector was the manufacturing (6.9 percent) of the three segment basic metal, manufacturing (10.3 percent) of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and manufacturing (15.7 percent) of electric equipment.
Apart from this, the production of capital goods used in factories has increased by 2.4 percent in March. The increase in this segment shows that investment in the economy is increasing. It has a direct effect on employment and income.

Demand for consumer durables boom

Consumer durables such as electronics goods, refrigerators and TV production have increased by 6.6 percent. This shows that people’s income is increasing and the demand for consumer products has increased. The infrastructure sector recorded a strong growth of 8.8 percent due to major government projects being implemented in highways, railway and port areas. The increase in the manufacturing sector is considered quite good for the economy, as it provides quality jobs to young graduates coming out of the country’s universities and engineering institutions. The official statement said that the top three positive contributors in the growth of IIPs in March based on the use -based classification were infrastructure, primary items and consumer durables.
