West Indies’s charismatic Dwayne Bravo, who replaced Gautam Gambhir as a mentor (guide) in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), said on Thursday that he would combine some elements of the former strategist of this franchise with his own style for the successful campaign in the upcoming session of IPL. Gambhir played an important role behind the scenes in the last season, due to which KKR won his third IPL title.
The current champion team has moved to Bravo before the IPL 2025 season, as Gambhir is now the head coach of the Indian team. Bravo said, “Unfortunately we could not retain some players in the team. I think Gambhir had our own way. My own style is. We are both successful in our own way.”
He made it clear that he respects Gambhir’s legacy, but he will also adopt his methods in this role. The former West Indies captain, however, admitted that he had consulted Gambhir. Bravo said, “I have certainly sent them messages to them many times. I will be very dependent on these people because they had a successful way. It is important that we follow that way.”
Bravo emphasized the need to study and adopt the way of success of the previous session and said that it is necessary to maintain the origin of the team. He said, “I think it will be disappointing for me not trying to know some good things he did in the last session. The origin of the team is here. It is our responsibility, coach, I, Venki sir that we go back to the auction and try our best to get back.”
Bravo said, “It was our duty to go to the auction and try to get the same team of the players of the championship winning the same team. And we were able to do so.” After releasing Venkatesh Iyer, the team gave full force for this explosive batsman in the auction. The team bought him back for Rs 23.75 crore. Bravo was a part of Chennai Super Kings for a long time. In such a situation, he was surprising associated with KKR.
The West Indies player, however, is excited to work with Shah Rukh Khan and described KKR as one of the best franchisees in the league. This 41 -year -old former player said, “I think it is good to be a boss like Shahrukh, which definitely invests in the game. My first thing started with Trinabago Knight Riders, when he first bought the team.”
He said, “I was the happiest person in the world to know that a person like him showed interest in buying a team in Caribbean. But not only in Caribbean, but also in my hometown. I was able to help make Trinabago Knight Riders, which is one of the most successful franchises in CPL history to date.” KKR will compete with Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens on 22 March and start IPL 2025.
