Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming said, “He was hurt in Guwahati. He is having a lot of pain.” “We found an X-ray, which was an individual, and we had an MRI, with his elbow, radial neck fracture detected.”

Stephen Fleming said, “So we are disappointed and feel for him. We appreciate his efforts in the attempt to play, but unfortunately, he will now be out of the tournament. We have an uncapormed player, MS Dhoni, who will take charge as captain for the remaining IPL.”

Dhoni, 43, has led the Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2024. After this, the franchise handed over the captaincy to Gaikwad. He also handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja in 2022, but after the poor results of the team, he withdrew the captaincy in the middle of the season. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK has also won five IPL titles and two Champions League Trophy in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023.

Fleming said, “If we can do it, then there was no hesitation in helping them (Dhoni) come forward and help us get out of it.” “So there was no doubt. We will consider replacement. There are some good players in our team who have been with us for some time, so we will see from inside first. But yes, it is an opportunity to see how we can probably make the team better in the next years.”

Rituraj Gaikwad’s injury is a major setback for Chennai Super Kings, as the team has lost four of its five matches and is in the ninth position in the points table. After being out of Gaikwad, he will live without his captain and prominent batsman in the top order. In particular, Gaikwad has been the top run -scorer of CSK in three of the last four sessions.
