IPL 2025: ‘This …’, Glenn Philips’ big statement with impact player rules

New Delhi:
Glenn Phillips on Impact Player: All -rounder Glenn Philips of New Zealand and Gujarat Titans believes that Impact Player Rule is currently working in the IPL, but it can sometimes cause problems in the development of all -rounder. People’s opinion on this rule is different but the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) has implemented it till at least 2027 session. The team, which pursues the target from getting additional batsmen as an impact player, gets an opportunity to take an aggressive stand with the first ball. Similarly, the bowling team can feed additional experts instead of all -rounder.

Philips said, ‘I am neither in its favor nor against. This definitely allows the team to do different things. But I think all -rounders may be out at any level and can clearly affect the international match, international T20, international one -day match. He said, ‘So for now, it is a great entertaining brand of cricket, but I think the good job that IPL has done is to change the rules according to the atmosphere.’

Philips said, “Of course the Impact Player Rules are working at this time, but then they can bring another rule and make the game more entertaining.” In the last session, Rohit Sharma had said that he is not a fan of the Impact Player Rules, as it hinders the development of the Indian all -rounder. Prior to the current session, Hardik Pandya said that it is difficult to include emerging all -rounders in the early XI, unless someone is a pure all -rounder like him. Philips also supported the removal of the ban associated with saliva on the ball before IPL 2025.

He said, ‘Saliva can be used this year, which will obviously also help reverse swing. But if an additional batsman is playing, then there should be something to help the bowlers. Philips said, ‘So I think the IPL has done this very well. Therefore, it is not necessary that the player is affected, but the rules are changed so that it can be kept new and refreshed.

Now bowlers can use saliva to brighten the ball in the IPL so that at least the end of the innings can be tried to achieve reverse swing. Philips justified the two -year ban imposed by the BCCI to withdraw foreign players from the IPL at the last time.

He said, ‘He warned the people, if you decide to play and then go away, then they know about the rules from the beginning. If there were no rules, then I think it would have been a bit harsh but the rules exist. Note that Harry Brook has been banned from the mega event for the current and next session due to late removal from IPL.
