Israel and Palestinian organization Hamas have agreed for ceasefire. Talks were going on between the two for some days regarding ceasefire and exchange of prisoners in Qatar. This conversation has yielded positive results. Israel and Hamas have agreed to stop the 15-month-long war in Gaza. According to the report of news agency AFP, America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has confirmed this. During the ceasefire, Hamas will release Israeli citizens held hostage in Gaza. In return, Israel will also release Hamas people. However, an official announcement regarding this ceasefire is yet to be made.
There is a war going on between Israel and Hamas since October 7, 2023. AFP had said in its report on Monday that the first phase of ceasefire between Israel and Hamas could last for a total of 42 days. In the first phase of the ceasefire deal, Hamas can release 33 hostages, including 5 women. Whereas Israel will release 250 Palestinian prisoners in return. After 15 days, Hamas will release the remaining hostages. Meanwhile, both sides will also keep talking about permanent ceasefire.

Donald Trump, who is going to take oath as the President of America on January 20, has confirmed this ceasefire on the Truth social media network. Trump said, “The deal regarding the release of hostages in the Middle East has been finalized. Hamas will soon release the people held hostage in Gaza. Thank you.”
Trump had warned Hamas
Earlier, Trump had warned the Palestinian organization Hamas about releasing the hostages. Trump had said, “If Hamas does not release the Israeli hostages as soon as possible, it will have to pay a very heavy price.”
The last discussion on ceasefire was held on January 14.
According to AFP information, the last talks between Israel and Hamas regarding the ceasefire deal were held in Qatar on January 14. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Al Thani hosted this conversation. Israeli intelligence agency Mossad chief David Barnia and Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar were involved in the ceasefire deal. From the US side, Trump’s representative Steve Witkoff and Biden’s representative Brett McGurk were present.

Buffer zone will be created between Israel and Gaza
According to CNN report, as soon as the ceasefire is announced, a buffer zone will be created between Gaza and Israel. Israel is demanding a buffer zone of up to 2 kilometers from the border, while Hamas wants a buffer zone of 300 to 500 meters as before October 2023. The final decision regarding the buffer zone is yet to be taken.
Displaced Palestinians will be able to return to North Gaza
After this deal, about 11 lakh Palestinian citizens who were sent from North Gaza to South Gaza will be given permission to go to their old place. However, deployment of Israeli troops may continue in this area for security reasons. The remaining details regarding the ceasefire deal are expected to come soon.
