Jerusalem:
The Israeli army said that Israeli fighter planes and drones bombed more than 100 sites in the Gaza Strip over the weekend, killing about 200 people. According to Xinhua news agency, the army said in a statement on Sunday that the airstrikes were carried out against militants’ positions, including the launch sites that were used to fire three rockets towards Israel on Friday.
According to Israeli Defense Forces and Shin Bet, many Hamas fighters were killed in this attack. The Hamas-run Gaza media office said Saturday evening that at least 184 people were killed in 92 Israeli airstrikes and shelling incidents over the weekend. Earlier on Saturday, the Hamas-run Gaza Media Office had reported that the Israeli army carried out 94 airstrikes and shelling on the Gaza Strip in the last 72 hours, killing 184 people.
In its statement, the office described it as dangerous and cruel, targeting unarmed civilians and residential areas, particularly in Gaza City. It said that many victims were either killed or injured. There are obstacles in saving those who are trapped under the debris and reaching the hospital. Palestinian civil defense officials in Gaza have confirmed that Israeli airstrikes have violently intensified over the past three days, in what local residents have described as an extremely difficult time.
The statement holds the Israeli military fully responsible for these terrible crimes and also criticizes the US administration for providing arms and political support to Israel. It calls on the international community and the UN Security Council to fulfill their legal and moral obligations by sending independent investigative teams to document these heinous crimes and ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
