Israeli cabinet meeting called to vote on Gaza ceasefire agreement

Israel’s cabinet meeting was called on Friday to vote on the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release agreement. The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given this information. This agreement should come into effect at the end of this week. The Security Cabinet has already given its approval to this agreement. After the agreement, the ongoing deadly fighting and bombing in Gaza will stop. This agreement will also ensure the release of hostages held in the area after Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Under the agreement reached by Qatar, America and Egypt, hundreds of Palestinian prisoners will also be released from Israeli jails in the next weeks. The Justice Ministry has published a list of 95 Palestinians to be freed. Awaiting government permission on this. These include 69 women, 16 men and 10 minors.

50 targets targeted in 24 hours

The Israeli prison service said it would prevent any “public displays of joy” over the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Dozens of people have been killed in Israeli attacks since the announcement of the ceasefire agreement. The army said on Thursday that it had hit about 50 targets in Gaza in the last 24 hours.

This ceasefire will be effective from the eve of the swearing-in ceremony of US President Donald Trump.

Displaced people are preparing to return to their homes

Netanyahu’s office said the proposed agreement “supports achieving the war objectives”. Also said that the Security Cabinet has recommended that the government approve it.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the Palestinian Authority has completed preparations “to assume full responsibility in Gaza” after the war. Even before the ceasefire began, the displaced people of Gaza were preparing to return to their homes.
