Jasprit Bumrah: ‘There is no one like Jassi’ Jasprit Bumrah is GOAT not just like that, see the powerful records of the fast bowler in statistics

India vs Australia Border Gavaskar Trophy Jasprit Bumrah Records: Jasprit Bumrah, who took 32 wickets in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, was chosen as the Player of the Series. Jasprit Bumrah performed so well from Perth to Sydney that only one name was heard in this series and that was Bumrah. However, Bumrah could not lead India to victory and Team India lost the series 1-3, but during this time Bumrah showed why everyone is calling him the greatest bowler of all time.

How deadly Jasprit Bumrah was with the ball on Australian soil can be gauged from the fact that he bowled 151.2 overs in 9 innings of five matches but cost only 418 runs. During this period he took 32 wickets. Bumrah achieved the feat of taking four wicket haul twice and five wicket haul thrice in this series. Bumrah gave runs at an economy of 2.76 and this shows that playing his balls is not easy at all.

With 32 dismissals in Australia, Bumrah equaled Harbhajan Singh’s record of taking the most wickets by any bowler in the India vs Australia Test series. Harbhajan Singh took 32 wickets in 2000-2001. However, there is a big difference in this that Harbhajan did this feat at home, whereas Bumrah did it at home in Australia.

During this, he also broke the record of Bishan Singh Bedi. Bishan Singh Bedi took 31 wickets during the 1977/78 tour – the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in a series during a Test tour of Australia.

Through his special action and his special release point, Bumrah becomes a threat to right-handed batsmen. Bumrah has got 0.8 degree seam in this series, while the swing record is -0.6, which is more than any other bowler. For a right-handed batsman, his seam moment is 0.9.

Bumrah’s speed may have been less, but it is more than that of any other Indian. Bumrah bowled at an average speed of 138 in this series, while Siraj’s average speed was 137. Bumrah’s balls come in such a way that the batsman feels that he has to play it at any cost, but in reality the ball is going out and Bumrah is successful in taking the wicket. Bumrah has shown in this series that he is quite lethal even after bringing the ball inside.

If we talk about the length of Bumrah’s balls, then no other bowler has been able to bowl as good a length as he bowls. Bumrah bowls more than 50 percent between 6-9 meters. And playing the ball at this length is difficult for any batsman. Bumrah has shown throughout this series that his average pace does not decrease much with the spells.

Bumrah had completed 200 wickets in the Melbourne Test. There have been 85 bowlers in Test cricket who have taken 200 or more wickets, but only Bumrah was able to achieve this feat in less than 12 matches. Bumrah had completed his 200 wickets at an average of 19.56 and no bowler in Test history had been able to do this before. Bumrah had completed 200 wickets by conceding 3912 runs.

Bumrah’s strike rate is 42.0 – one wicket every seven overs – behind only Waqar Younis, Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada. This shows that Bumrah is adept at taking wickets with both new and old balls.

Jasprit Bumrah, who started his Test career against South Africa in Cape Town in January 2018, has played 19 Test series for India so far. During this period, runs have been given at an economy of more than 3 in only five series. In the series between India and South Africa in 2023-2024, Bumrah gave runs at an economy of 3.19 and this is his highest economy in any Test series.

If we look at the figures year after year, Bumrah looks like an old wine. Bumrah has taken 71 wickets in 26 innings of 13 matches in 2024. This is his best performance in any year. During this period his strike rate has been 30.1. Meaning, we were able to take one wicket in five overs. Last year, he has achieved the feat of taking five wicket hauls five times. Bumrah bowled 357 overs in 2024 and during this he bowled 85 overs of maidens and gave only 1060 runs.

Bumrah’s superiority can also be gauged from the fact that out of the more than 200 wickets he has taken, about 70 percent of the wickets have come in military countries, which is the highest compared to any other Indian. Of Bumrah’s first 200 wickets, 64 were taken by the top three batsmen. If we talk about Bumrah’s overseas figures, he has taken 64 wickets in Australia, 86 in England, 12 in New Zealand, 48 in South Africa and 13 in West Indies.

Of the wickets taken by Bumrah during his career, the wickets of opening batsmen account for more than 25 percent, while for number three the figure is more than 7 percent and for number four it is more than 15 percent. Of all the wickets Bumrah has taken in Tests, more than 47 percent of the wickets have been taken by four top-order batsmen and this figure is the best for India.
