Bengaluru:
Veena T, daughter of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has been accused of cheating and Serious Fraud Investigation Office has accused her in the charge sheet. Veena is alleged that her company Exalogic Solutions obtained nearly three crore rupees without providing any legitimate service from Cochin Minerals and Rutil Ltd.
SFIO investigations found that there was a formal agreement between Exalogic Solutions and CMRL, under which these payments were made, but no service was provided. Therefore, these payments have been considered fraud.
Many people including Veena made accused in charge sheet
The Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs has approved prosecution against Veena under Section 447 of the Companies Act, 2013, which is related to corporate fraud. If found guilty, they can be fined at least from equal to three times the amount of jail and fraud from six months to ten years.
Apart from Veena in the 160 -page charge sheet of SFIO, Sasidharan Kartha and 25 other people of CMRL have also been accused.
Opposition parties asked for the Chief Minister’s resignation
Opposition parties have reacted strongly to the matter. Leader of the Opposition VD Satisan has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, saying that the allegations are serious and the Chief Minister should take moral responsibility.
On the other hand, Kerala Law Minister P Rajiv described the SFIO report as politically motivated and alleged that the inclusion of Veena in the charge sheet is a conspiracy against the ruling Left Democratic Front government.
Last year, the central government started the SFIO investigation. The ED had registered a case of money laundering and in 2019 the ED raided this regard, on which the matter was carried forward.
