Despite the prohibition law implemented in Bihar, the process of liquor smuggling is not showing any signs of stopping. In Bihar, bringing, drinking and possessing liquor comes under the category of crime, but smugglers, with the connivance of the police, keep adopting new methods to transport large consignments of liquor into the state. However, the police often foil the plans of these smugglers. Police have seized a huge consignment of liquor worth Rs 56 lakh going from Jharkhand to Vaishali. This liquor was being smuggled through trucks.

The arrested truck driver had hidden the liquor consignment between a sack of paddy husk. A total of 359 cartons of liquor (3231 litres) were loaded in the truck. The consignment was going from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand to Vaishali. The arrested truck driver has been identified as Sitaram Paswan, resident of Basti Sarsikan Kishanpur village of Garaul police station area of Vaishali district. On the basis of interrogation of the driver, the police has started searching for other liquor mafias and businessmen.
Monitoring by GPS installed in truck
Police said that the truck used for smuggling was fitted with GPS, due to which the liquor mafia was keeping an eye on the movements of the vehicle. Police have also seized a fast track card, a GPS device and a keypad mobile from the truck.
How was the consignment intercepted?
According to Sadar DSP-2 Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal, after receiving secret information, the police intensified the vehicle checking operation on the orders of senior officers. The driver tried to run away by parking the vehicle on the roadside, but the police chased him and caught him. Police say that action is underway to get to the bottom of the matter and expose the entire network related to smuggling.
