In Manipur, the army, along with other security forces, has recovered 32 weapons, several state-of-the-art equipment, grenade and large ammunition and war related goods from various districts. The defense spokesperson said on Saturday that the Army, Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF and ITBP personnel campaigned in eight districts of Manipur – Thobal, Vishnupur, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Tennaupal, Jiribam and Senapati in the last few days. These districts come in the hill and valley region.
This weapon recovered
The recovered weapons include single bore barrel rifle, 0.22 rifle, AK series rifle, light machine guns, .303 rifles, insas rifles, 7.62 mm SLR, improvised mortar and pistol.
The defense release states that these coordinated efforts made by security forces show their unwavering commitment to maintain peace and security in Manipur.
Meanwhile, the defense spokesperson said that 34 women from Manipur, who became part of the Assam Rifles National Integration Yatra (NIT), interacted with Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Ram Chandra Tiwari in Kolkata.
This conversation gave these ‘women ambassadors’ an opportunity to share their experiences about NITs and to get valuable information about the role of Assam Rifles and Indian Army for peace restoration in ‘Seven Sister States’ of Northeast India.
Women of Manipur on 10 days tour
The spokesman said that the women of Manipur are on a 10 -day visit to Ahmedabad and Kolkata from March 12 to 22. In this tour organized by Assam Rifles, participants got an opportunity to see economic, infrastructure and cultural progress in Ahmedabad and Kolkata.
During his stay in Gujarat, he visited major sites like Statue of Unity, Sabarmati Ashram and Akshardham Temple. In Ahmedabad, women interacted with Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat. The Governor urged him to follow the development model of Gujarat for peace and prosperity in Manipur.
The women also saw the urban lifestyle of Ahmedabad, including the banks of Sabarmati and Narmada. In Kolkata, he visited the prestigious monuments like Victoria Memorial, Indian Museum and Mother Teresa’s house.
Honor of participants
Talking with NIT participants, the Eastern Army Commander highlighted the ability to develop as a power house of sports and tourism areas of Manipur and the important role of women in the prosperity of the state.
He appreciated the participants for exiting other parts of India and encouraged them to follow the development model seen in Ahmedabad and Kolkata.
As a symbol of appreciation, he honored the participants by giving them shawls. In return, the women honored the general by giving traditional stole and a painting of Imphal.
NIT is evidence of continuous efforts by NIT Assam Rifles to promote national integration and empower women from remote areas.
