Boxing in Los Angeles Olympics 2028: Boxing will be included in the Los Angeles Games as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board approved it before the 144th session starting on Tuesday. The IOC had given temporary recognition to World Boxing last month, bypassing the International Boxing Association (IBA) and entrusted the rights to the new regulator unit.
In the session of IOC from 18 to 21 March, a new president will also be selected instead of Thomas Bak. Along with this, the decision of the Executive Board to include boxing in Los Angeles Olympics 2028 will also be approved.
After the meeting of the Executive Board, Bak said, “We were in a position to take this decision after the world boxing got temporary in February. It will be kept for approval in the session and I am sure it will be approved. After this it will be approved.
Under the supervision of IOC, Boxing competitions of Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Paris Olympics 2024 were held. The IBA’s recognition was canceled in 2023 after questioning the long -standing operations and fairness of matches.
Welcoming the decision, Boris Van der Vorst, president of world boxing, said, “This is a very important decision for Olympic boxing and is going to take the game closer to the game at the Olympic program. I thank the IOC Executive Board.”
